Blue Afternoon started in 1996 around someone's bonfire in Southern Illinois. It has had numerous transformations across 15+ years that included area musicians such as Tom Hensold (percussion), Tami Boaz Frank (vocals), Mark Moreno (bass), Mike Mithauge (bass), and Shelley Mulvaney (flute, oboe, and vocals). At present, Marty and Mike (original members of the group) are playing wineries, coffehouses, and other events as a duo.

Blue Afternoon's gentle debut CD was named Nightlife's runnerup for CD of the year in 1998, but unfortunately it is sold out. Copies of 2001's Pass It On CD with the full band are still available for almost nothing at all Blue Afternoon shows. The band's byline is usually something like, "It's always a good day for a little Blue Afternoon."
