One of the most popular bands in the region will be no more after December, and their last public solo show in Carbondale — and the penultimate public solo performance in Southern Illinois — is scheduled at The Varsity on Saturday, Nov. 18.

In late September, The Swamp Tigers announced on their Facebook page that the band would “be no more” at the end of the year.

The Swamp Tigers play honky-tonk, rockabilly, traditional country and rock ‘n’ roll music. For more than six years, they have been providing listeners with a high-energy show and have shared the stage with acts such as REO Speedwagon, The Bottle Rockets, Wayne Hancock, Dale Watson, The Bellfuries, Pokey LaFarge and more. Their influences are BR549, Carl Perkins, Webb Pierce, Johnny Horton and The Bellfurie.

The band will play its final show on Dec. 9 at the Old Feed Store in Cobden.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18. Doors and the bar open at 6:45. The Varsity Bar features local and other wines, local and other beers, select cocktails and snacks.

Tickets are $9 and are available in advance at thevarsitycenter.eventbrite.com, at Plaza Records (816 E. Main, Carbondale) and at The Science Center in University Mall. They also will be available at the door, but advance tickets are recommended.

The Varsity is at 418 S. Illinois Ave., Carbondale. For more information, go to www.thevarsitycenter.org. For more on The Swamp Tigers, go to www.facebook.com/theswamptigers.
