Local underground psychedelic garage rockers The Flowers of Evil have an EP and a full album in the works. The EP is set to be released soon with the album coming in a few months.

The Flowers of Evil current members are Chris Wittman (drums, percussion, tapes and loop sounds), Josh Hunter (guitars), Stacey Camden (bass, drum machine) and Kaleb Hunter (vocals, guitar, noise).

Kaleb Hunter and Steve Henderson formed an early version of the band in 2008. After a brief stint in Chicago, The Flowers of Evil expanded upon returning to Carbondale — adding several members and going on to record numerous albums and EP’s through its own record label, Black Monk Sound, founded by Kaleb Hunter to specifically release material from The Flowers of Evil.

Their eighth album, which is scheduled to appear in January, is titled Witch Out.

It follows 2015’s Mystic Cop Out and will feature the four-piece band. Songs from the Sit N Spin EP include Plastic Friend, Prester John, Mystic Copout 4, Paper Man Maid of Paper and Floating World Pleasures. Witch Out will include shorter or different versions of some of the same tunes alongside numbers like Picasso Cake, Mock Turtle Sings, The Man Who Cuts the Grass and Drug Punk.

Sit N Spin and Witch Out will be available at Hard Copies and Plaza Records in Carbondale as well as Joe’s Records in Marion.

Drummer Chris Wittman told Nightlife that there will be a cassette as well as a possible vinyl release.

Look for an album release show at Plaza Records or somewhere else around town soon.
